Meet the talent – Fabian Demuth – Impact Festival

Age: 29

Place of residence: Frankfurt, Germany

Position: Project Manager & Product Owner in Venture Building, neosfer GmbH
Founder Impact Festival

Please describe a day in your life:

I am not an early bird, but have a good morning routine and take a cold shower first, very healthy and above all invigorating. Try to keep at least half of the day free of meetings and keep them short and efficient. The tasks consist mainly of coordinating the interdisciplinary team, partners and service providers. I prefer to work on content or strategy directly on the project, and like to design and implement things from scratch. The wide range of tasks and procedures are like in a start-up, from contracts, HR, strategy, concept, finance, marketing and acquisition of customers and partners, everything is there. I often have the most productive and creative time in the evenings, when I’m not doing sports or climbing.

How many projects are you currently working on? Please describe them:

Currently working on two main projects
1. Impact Festival, after building up and leading last year, now supporting strategy and sales
2. Impact Platform, building up a new digital platform/search engine with sustainable and Greentech solutions for corporates to accelerate the green transformation in our economy

In your opinion, who is the most influential person/company in the world of technology these days?

Even if already hyped everywhere, Elon Musk is currently shaping innovations and above all unbureaucratic ways and courageous as well as humorous touch like no other in the most diverse industries.
Besides him, I also follow Phillip Schröder in Germany, Mate Rimac in Croatia and Boyan Slat from the Netherlands.

If you can pick one app/product/project existing now that you wish you were involved in, what would it be:

Realize just my ideas am very happy, currently there would be nothing more exciting for me.

How do you see technology evolving in the next ten years?

Focus on Data, Ethics / Behavior & Resource/Product Efficiency

What would you like the industry to look like in ten years?

The topic of sustainability is anchored and lived in all companies as a principle in the company, not located in marketing and with the goal of giving more to the environment and society than harming it.

What are the three characteristics you have that make you successful in tech?

Courage to think big and implement ideas from scratch and take risks, as well as creativity and high commitment when working on passionate topics.

What is the most difficult thing you had to deal with during your career?

The choice between an extremely comfortable path in the automotive industry or a dynamic environment where I can exercise creativity and responsibility.

What is your greatest achievement up until today?

When we wanted to launch the largest event for sustainable solutions in the B2B sector for the first time and at the same time in the middle of the pandemic, with 170 exhibitors and over 2,000 visitors, some shook their heads and declared it crazy. Until the end, some things were on the edge and cost a lot of nerves. My team and I were all the more proud that everything went so successfully.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In 5 years I see the projects standing as independent organizations and possibly working on a technology with, for example, Carbon Capturing. Working directly on such important higher-level solutions would be exciting for me.

What is your next goal?

My next goal is to bring together innovators of sustainable solutions and companies year-round and digitally to scale.

What tip do you have for people who want to start out in the tech world?

Finding true passions and following them. Likewise, to focus on our real long-term challenges, a stronger “why” cannot be found in my eyes.

If you could say something to your younger self what would it be?

Difficult question, many experiences you have to experience yourself and grow from them. Maybe faster to let go of things that do not bring you forward or stop you. If it involves a leap back in time, a few stock tips to then open my own GreenTech Venture Capital fund.

What is the invention of the century in your eyes?

Although not yet technically mature or ready, I think plasma reactors can definitely become a key technology for us in the field of renewable energy.

Which famous person would like to have dinner with and why?

Wolodymyr Selenskyj was incredible leader at such a time.

Where would you like to travel next?

I am very satisfied when I am here in the Alps climbing or paragliding. What still interests me in the distance and where I would like to go is Japan and Bhutan, both very exceptionally inspiring countries and cultures.

If you were asked to stay on a deserted island for 6 months what 3 things would you take with you?

Recently watched the german survival series seven vs wild, Knife, Firerocks, ein Gefäß / Topf

Do you have a person who influences or motivates you?

I am currently very impressed by the Ukrainians, how brave and determined they are. Furthermore, I am very inspired by the many founders of sustainable solutions, which specifically do not function commercially but simply focus on solving social or environmental challenges. This is certainly one of the most difficult paths in the start-up environment, but socially the most valuable output.

Last thing regarding which you told yourself “how come no one has ever thought of it”?
Why there is still no established provider for private car sharing in Germany.

What is the greatest miss? (you thought it will never work but turned out to be a great success):

That in my current position I am completely free to implement my ideas and receive a lot of support and resources.

What did you dream of creating/inventing/doing as a child?

I often thought of space exploration and urban planning/architecture.

How did covid-19 change the way people view technological development?

The pandemic was a big step forward for many, so requirements and standards for digitized services have certainly grown far beyond home office topics. Sidenote, this helps a lot because there is also a lot of C02 savings potential in accelerating digitization (source: Bitkom study).
